I teach in a Title I school where 100% of the students receive a free lunch. My second grade students face many challenges and insecurities in their daily lives, including poverty, homelessness, and incarcerated parents. School is a place where they can experience the joys of learning, friendship, and the safety of a daily routine. Despite their adversities, my students come to school every day, eager to learn. I am always looking for fresh and innovative ways to inspire them to reach their goals!
We just received a set of 5 of these weighted lap pads. I was looking for ways to help my students with autism, anxiety, and ADHD to feel calm, focused and secure in the classroom. These lap pads have exceeded my expectations! They are making such a difference. Students are able to sit, listen, and participate during whole group teaching. They take the lap pads to their seat and are able to concentrate on independent work. The weighted lap pads are helping students to regulate their feelings of anxiety. It's so exciting to be able to meet their needs in this very important way. However, every day I have students asking if they can use a lap pad. Their eyes plead with me, and I have to say no because there are not enough for everyone who needs one. I would love to be able to meet the needs of each and every one of my sweet second graders. Please help me supply our classroom with more of the tools we need so that students can focus on learning.
